Just found out about these places and how people can't deal with being in rooms with complete silence and zero echo. Most people can't stand it more than a few minutes and a half hour is considered pretty extreme duration.
After a number of minutes, you’ll begin to hear your own heartbeat. Stick it out a little longer, and you’ll hear your own blood flowing and bones grinding.
With no sound from the outside world allowed in, the almost absolute silence will gradually manifest itself as an unbearable ringing in your ears.

Cool! I'd like to try that.
A friend here in Portland owns this business -- not exactly the same, music is involved.

I asked if I could bring in some Phil music next time... she gave me a freebie a couple of months ago.

I read somewhere a couple of years ago that the record for duration in an anechoic chamber is 45 minutes. Ive wanted to try it because getting through an ayahuasca experience is an extreme form of meditation / concentration. Sounds interesting.

Yeah I would love to try it.
Yeah I would love to try it. The video I saw, the guy started stumbling around about a minute after he closed the door. Our ear drums are used to the pressure of reflecting sound and the absence of that messes with your balance. Since I can't ride amusement park rides anymore I'm pretty sure I wouldn't last in there for more than a few minutes.

I did an hour-long float in a sensory deprivation tank back in the early 80s, and experienced something similar. One and done was plenty of that kind of silence for me.

I tried one of those once
I tried one of those once didn't do much for me one way other the other. Timothy Leary did a lecture at my school and I got to ask him a question about John Lilly the inventor of the tanks. I had just read an article about him doing monster doses of K and getting in the tanks and wanted to know what Leary thought about that. He kind of laughed and said something about phone home John and stop trying to talk to the dolphins. Lilly was an interesting guy.
