Buddy Holly appreciation thread

Forums:

Obviously we all love Buddy Holly in The GD world... his connection lives in our souls whether we want it to or not. it was a highlight of my summer in 2003 when Dylan performed Oh Boy with The Dead on their Summer Getaway tour. Seeing my two biggest musical loves paying tribute to my third was a moment that stands frozen in time.

One of my earliest “rabbit holes” was collecting every known Buddy Holly recording in existence. I think I got there, even collecting recorded news footage and commercial jingles, I went pretty overboard for a while… it's an incredible collection of recordings for someone who was 22 when he died

anyway, once in a while something “new” comes along and of course, I’ve gotta hear it.., well this is a Rollercoaster Records project that was done in collaboration with JI Alison before he passed away and the results are a fascinating listen. Included are stereo and mono remixes of the original album, but the real gem here are the source recordings sans overdubs. What is left are the sparse, well separated base recordings. What incredible stuff! The cliche “like they are in the room with you” fully applies here… anyone with a interest in Buddys music would do well to check this collection out…

"This is a 'must have' Buddy Holly CD reissue fans are sure to enjoy and treasure".... "an outstanding sounding CD in which no attempt was made to "modernize" - Michael Framer - trackingangle.com

"Forget recent AI work with The Beatles reissues. It's primitive compared to this, which may be the watershed moment in recording technology.... One of the most important rock albums ever, now sounding better than you could imagine" – Ken Kessler, Hi-Fi News

anyone have any cool Buddy Holly stories or memories to share? I still think Gary Busey was amazing in the Buddy Holly Story. Despite it's shortcomings, it's one of the very few biopics I can enjoy watching.

Despite the lack of historical accuracy, Gary really smokes here...

I'd like to do this one for the boppers.. those who bop...

Some great songs that have stood the test of time.   Popularized the classic rock n roll lineup of two guitars, bass, and drums.  Also, one of the first white rock n roll artists that wrote most of his own songs (folks like Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and Little Richard had writing their own material).

He turned a lot of heads.  Clapton, the Beatles.

To this day, his now 93 year old widow, Maria Elena, has never been to his gravesite.

Lennon once said "no Buddy, no Beatles"

Bss once said "no Buddy, no Waylon".
