Downtown for a few days on biz.
Nice place these days with a difficult history.
Charleston was check-in for so many Africans in chains. At some points slaves out numbered free "men" in this state.
First shot on Ft Sumpter to start the Civil War was here.

I was there for the first
I was there for the first time last month. Super cheap flights on Avelo, so we decided to go down for a long weekend to check it out.
You are correct lots of history but most of it very bleak. Cool town to walk around with beautiful architecture and awesome food. There was one glaring void though: almost no live music scene in Charleston proper. Apparently the few cool music venues are on the outskirts of town.

I like 2 venues in the area.
I like 2 venues in the area. The first is the Pour House. That place can be fun. The other is a little bit of a drive to the Isle of Palms but worth it. The Windjammer is right on the beach and they book some good bands worthy of a weekend stay right next door.
Ask around about Denmark Vesey. Nobody seems to interested to discuss. I have been to the historical sites and only found one mention of his name.
