John and Paul a Love Story in Songs

Forums:

Just finished this book which focuses mostly on John and Paul’s relationship and specifically how they would communicate in their songs. It also tries to change the conversation from John was the artist and Paul was the vapid pop star to something more equal.

I was never into the Beatles they were more like air – completely unavoidable. It’s not that I didn’t like them I just never took an active interest in them because it just didn’t seem necessary. I thought I knew their whole story.

Anyway the book was great, just mind blown to read in detail how they created all those songs over 7 years. Yes they wrote a little before 63 but that wasn’t their focus and almost every song was written after 63 when they got the EMI contract. Also didn’t realize that John and Paul wrote all of their songs which is 98% of the Beatles songs just between the two of them. George and Ringo had almost no input and got no song writing credits and there are no only John or Paul songs. Even Yesterday is credited to John and Paul when it was really only Paul and George Martin.

Anyway if you’re looking for a good read I highly recommend. I now know who Prudence was which doesn’t help with enjoyment of the song.

I made sure to read your whole post to myself in a thick British accent for added emphasis

Thanks for the recommend. I'll look for it at my local independent bookseller.
