Saw him play with Gregg's eggs in Cottage grove..or somewhere. I couldn't find parking, and asked the guy crossing the street.~ "Hey! How do I get to where you're playing?" He laughed, said he didn't know by car, 'cause he was on foot. Nice guy.
First saw him with the Tubes in the early 80s', was excellent!!!
But really loved Mickey Hart at Fern Ridge Res. outside of Eugene with Vince fronting the band. Was a blast watching the sound check... they were trying to work out "Lion Sleeps Tonight", kept changing the key trying to find the right spot, worked on the harmonies, arrangement, etc. When they performed it during the show they absolutely smoked it, many times better than the rehearsal (i've told stories about them taking over the sound crew tent since we put AC in, only the band never used it, we basically got a huge food spread in our tent for free, yum yum yummy!). Was cool hanging with some of the band members and crew, Vince was truly a gentleman, humble, laid back, very classy!!!
And while i'd seen the Dead w/ Keith / Donna, Brent, and Vince, that last era never rocked me the way the Brent years did (love the FIRE of that era), wish Jerry would have let him play organ, but alas...
RIP to a real player, genuine humanitarian, and nicest guy on the earth
Pretty much stopped going to shows when Brent died but did do Germany. Here's is Vince doing some nice interplay with Jerry on Shakedown Street in Berlin. Best show of tour IMO. Reminds me of the Spectrum show in 82 with Jerry trading licks with Brent on Shakedown.

He was the only GD
He was the only GD keyboardist I saw. Of all the members, I think Vinny was the best dressed.

Super gracious friendly eager
Super gracious friendly eager to say hello chap, glad I got the chance to rub elbows.
That being said,,, Horrible fucking voice and totally out of place keyboards his entire time in the Dead.
Just so wrong I don't know where to even start. Jerry's worst mistake as bandleader.
