Swab test

Forums:

Just got a swab test for Covid. No worse than a couple lines of mediocre crank (with the Ajax afterburn).

The fear that they will puncture something in your head is the worse part of the experience.

They come out to your car in full protective gear holding a swap and a test tube. The plastic handled thin swab itself is very long and flexible.  (It kinda reminded me of a big version of those little dental floss wands with the little brush on the end.) There is no shoving it in searching for your brain. It slides in rather smoothly.

But then they poke it around for a couple seconds which seems much longer as you realize there is something way up in your nose that shouldn't be. It pulls out fast. No blood or snot on the end of it.  Whew. That's over. You have that I'm gonna sneeze feeling combined with a mild sharp pain that recedes fairly fast.

But noooooooo. Then they use the same swap to do it again up the other nostril.

Whole thing takes 5 minutes or less.

Results in 4 - 7 days. Which seems..... unhelpful?

We stay pretty isolated around here and our zip code has 225 cases out of 20,000 people (and I feel fine), so expecting ok results.

Rick Moranis is now in your brain.

I got my results in 2 hrs. But then again I was having an emergency procedure

I've been tested twice. The worst part of it for me was hat it didn't bother me. I was thinking, "what the hell is wrong with me?"

I have an appointment for my 3rd test today via Project Baseline. Self swab was easy.

at least it's not a hundred some years ago when leeches and blood-letting was the go-to medical procedure....

Back then you'd pull up in your buggy, some big guy would come up and strangle you to near unconsciousness, and then the local barber / dentist / surgeon would slap a leach on your carotid artery until your  neighbor showed up with a couple chickens as payment.... and if you lived, you passed the test

I found it slightly uncomfortable in an annoying kind of way for a very very short time.

Most doable.  20 hour turnover time.

If Covid is airborne in saliva droplets that can spray like 20 feet, why do they need to stick a giant q tip halfway to your brain just to take a sample of it?

had my throat looked at for apnea...they stuck a giant fucking hose up my nose...it was unpleasant.

I remember the young medical technician nicely asking if I needed a moment after she swabbed my first nostril.  It wasn't too overwhelming, so I told her I was okay and to go ahead.  Didn't want to look like a wuss.  Got my result in 18 hours, but I too was getting tested before having a medical procedure.

Yeah, they should just give you a snort of snuff (remember that stuff  "snuff"? --- there was a time it was marketed to high school kids and they had different flavors and all) and have you sneeze in a plastic bag. Good idea Mice!

The third one was by far the worst.
