Nothing puts a smile on my face like seeing Jerry do something beyond smiling, or the occasional skip and hop during a rollicking Brent song. These are three that popped to mind.
4-12-78 Durham: A wild-ass U.S. Blues with Jerry screaming and actually jumping in the air for the last chord. He was windmilling on Truckin a couple songs prior. We can probably chalk this up to some killer blow, but this is an excellent show regardless. One of the best of 78.

8-11-87 Red Rocks: Jerry's so goddamn fired up during the end of Ship of Fools he points to the crowd three times while delivering the last verses. If there's a better version than this, please tell me. BTW, there's time stamp for Ship on this link.

3-24-87 Hampton: Jerry imitating Weir's mannerisms during the Terrapin outro.

Anyone have any others? Maybe not a link, but an occasion where Jerry's so "into it" he does something out of character.

The band opens the show with a China>Rider. Jerry is looking animated, healthy, and engaged, and his voice sounds stronger than it had through most of 1985. He is swaying back and forth and practically hops during the "wish I was a headlight on a northbound train" line. Supposedly, he had stopped using heroin the month before. Maybe it was that, or that the Neville Brothers were in the house and about to join them for the first time during the 2nd set, but he seems particularly extroverted here. 1986 would turn rough by the Summer Tour, and he would suffer his coma in August, but at this point he seemed to be building on the momentum from 1985.

I went to every NYE/rub show
I went to every NYE/run show from 81 till 91 and 12/31/85 was the WORST by a mile . Just awful and that sinking feeling when I realized no 3rd set was rough. I agree 12/30 was much better and Mighty Quinn breakout as well on 12/30.
