With all due respect, just because you have a lack of awareness of Mr. Hancock's catalogue - and, I will admit, he pretty much went ahead and sold out, making music to sell to cheeseburger heads in the 70s and 80s, in order to make a little green - but this certainly doesn't mean that he lacks "melody with [his] music." Dude's literally known for classic harmonic melodies. Empyrean Isles? Maiden Voyage? "Watermelon Man"?
Again, for context - the only time I've seen Herbie Hancock live, he was playing in a guest duet to celebrate Wayne Shorter's 80th birthday. Just an acoustic piano and Mr. Shorter on saxophone. That was nothing but straight melody, if one was forced to describe the experience in a singular manner.
Never seen him with the keytar. Sorry that that's the extent of your interface. I suggest you click the link in the OP, and start to listenin'.
