While traveling around in the west and seeing our power lines stretch across the vast countryside, on occasion my mind has wandered a bit and wondered what would happen if a foreign enemy wanted to disrupt our grand ol' life in America and attack our power grid. As remote as some are, I wondered about the effect of a few well-placed topplings of a tower or twenty would do to our economy, especially in the wide open west, and how it would disrupt us. And we know we have some very dedicated enemies.
Now in our current situation, I think to our reliance on the internet. With so many working remotely, and with our economy teetering as it is, can you imagine what an effective attack on our communication systems and networks would do to this country right now? We would be so screwed.
I'm not smart enough to know how that could be pulled off, or even IF someone could injure us in this fashion. But I'm wondering just how vulnerable our country is right now. Are the people trying to disrupt our elections and faith in our system, or any other foreign enemies, capable of pulling something like this off?
Against my better judgment, I'm throwing this thought out on the Zone. Flame and ridicule away.

In a similar vein, I've often wondered about the security of the Alaska pipeline. Most pipelines run underground, but the one that runs from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez is above ground because of the permafrost. It runs right along the road in many places Wouldn't be that hard to cause a leak or five.

Turtle....pass the dutchie
Turtle....pass the dutchie with the strain that makes me less paranoid.
The grid and internets (and satellites) can be disabled remotely. No need for dirty business like bombs and shit. China and US have a MAD stalemate in place since our economies are so entangled. North Korea and Iran and Russia, not so much.
