Peter Rowan, David Nelson & others play Jerry's acoustic music in Berkeley

Forums:

I just realized I hadn't seen anything about this show here. Maybe I missed it, but here's the info if you didn't know about it. This should be a real good one...

Peter Rowan with David Nelson, Eric and Suzy Thompson, Scott Law and Darol Anger performing the Jerry Garcia acoustic song book.

Freight & Salvage, Berkeley - Friday April 3rd - 7:00

The Sunday show looks good too. I do love Peter Rowan when he's playing that bluegrass.

GTTS!

Sounds cool.  Have a great time.

Now that is one I would kill to go to.

I'm sure the music will be fine, but there's too much Jerry corpse humping going on for my tastes.

I bought tickets for this early on, it will be a fantastic show!

>too much Jerry corpse humping
I remember the days of my youth when my music recitals would be mostly Beethoven and Mozart corpse humping. wink

>>>there's too much Jerry corpse humping going on for my tastes<<<

You mean like that Molly Tuttle bit on facebook?

I guess these guys (and gals) should just stick to humping the corpses of Bill Monroe and the Stanley Brothers.

>>>I'm sure the music will be fine<<<

I get your point Thom, but you really should have just stopped there, because that's all that matters.

What is Jerry's acoustic music?

Didn't Jerry play old folk songs when he played acoustic not GD music!

So no corpse humping. Plus Rowan and Nelson were in acoustic bands with Jerry. Seems more like a tribute. Corpse humping would be them playing only Jerry music in their own bands which  they don't.

Would you consider JGB with Melvin corpse humping?

Would love to be there for this.

Just got my ticket. This is going to be good. Again, fuck you thommy.

Nelson and Rowan corpse humping.

Wow that's rich.

I'd go just to see Darol Anger.

I understand Thom's point. They could have just advertised the show with the players and that they're going to play old-time American music (which is pretty much the same thing as "Jerry Garcia's Acoustic Songbook") but by putting Jerry's name on it they're able to generate more interest and sell more tickets during a three-day festival. So yes, they're using Jerry's name.

So then the question really is...............

So what? It's really not a big deal. The whole corpse humping concept is just another way for people to feel superior. Get over it.

>>>I'd go just to see Darol Anger<<<

That's what really got my attention, and ultimately my money, so I didn't give in just because "Jerry".

And that makes me feel pure and superior.

AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!

Some shows are getting postponed. I just received this notice from Bing Concert Hall:

>In an attempt to try to cease the spread of this virus Stanford University is joining other educational institutions and companies to halt having events, performances or gatherings with over 150 attendees beginning March 5 - April 15..

Rehashing the Remains...

"when my music recitals would be mostly Beethoven and Mozart corpse humping."

I'll give you an A for effort on this one, but we both know it's not the same thing.  Half the songs they'll be singing will be traditional folk songs that Jerry didn't write.

I love Jerry, but his cultural contribution isn't the same as Beethoven or Mozart.

Humping ashes isn't any better.
