Sunday Morning

I always think of the Velvet Underground song.  Andy Warhol died on a Sunday morning.

Kris Kristofferson also comes to mind.

Go ta meat n bun

Among the things from the 90s that did not suck, one I miss most is Christine Lavin's Sunday Breakfast on 'FUV.

Sharp, funny and a ton of great music.

Bluest, I took a songwriting class with her last June and got the impression she was still doing social media. Love her.

Saw her go outside and do a baton twirling contest during intermission of the Four Bitchin' Babes tour years ago.

She's touring in March with four other singer songwriters. Cliff Eberhardt, John Gorka, Patty Larkin, and Cheryl Wheeler. I'd pay to see that, 'fer sure 'fer sure.

And she's got a new album.  https://christinelavin.com/

Thanks, Slick.  Yeah, that's probably a great show.  I'm a fan of Gorka; do a couple of his tunes.

I remember Cheryl Wheeler from, I think, her guesting on Prairie Home Companion.  Going to see Kenny White, who frequently opens for/accompanies her, in March.  Two months ago, I never heard of him.  I might leave that show with whatever audio merch he's schlepping.  One album features Larry Campbell, Amy Helm and David Crosby.  Mainly, dude can sure turn a phrase.

Bonus points if you spot the instrumental tip of the hat to another bitchin' babe.smiley

Wow, what a great tune. Thanks for turning me on to that. A few folks 'round these parts should hear that tune. I'll play it a few more times. May just search out his stuff. New to me. Love good lyrics.

My guess is Joni. Cheryl Wheeler has a great tune "Is It Peace or Is It Prozac?"

Funny about Gorka. I have some connections also. Been a fan for years, He did the Utah Arts Fest song school two years ago and I thoroughly enjoyed him. Such a humble guy. I learned "The Sentinel" years ago and have a great autographed photo I took of him from many moons ago.

I did a song school at Folks Fest in Colorado in '95. Gorka was there. I played it for one teacher and his reaction was pretty much "Don't quit the day job."

It's a 10 verse song about a 16 year-old Hispanic girl from a strict Catholic family in Arizona who gets pregnant and goes to Mexico for an abortion. Due to the back alley care, she passed away after arriving back home, her father never knowing that fear of him cost her her life. I think I wrote it while the Reagan administration was debating parental notification.

I searched out Gorka one day and asked him "Are you critiquing songs today?" he replied "I don't do that." I was puzzled. He added "But if you want to play me a tune, I'll tell ya what I hear."  He didn't think he had the right to tell others how to do their tunes. I played it for him, explaining what my concerns were. He pointed out the symbolism in a lyric he really liked, and of my 10 verse song, he said "I wouldn't change a thing."  I left feeling pretty good about that long story song. Gorka is very encouraging to his students. A real sweetheart.

Bluest, you've been on the zone a while. Wondering if I had an old e-mail for ya on my old Zoner list from years ago?   What town you in?

If you have an old PZ e-m, it's still good.

Joni is correct, and there is a lyrical clue preceding the instrumental to-do.

A few folks 'round these parts should hear that tune.<

Ya think?wink

BTW, Slick, Kenny also has a songwriting clinic:
