Ha.  That band was actually pretty good.  Funny thing was about two years ago I saw that UFO was playing a club in Portland.  My buddy and I got tickets and went to check them out and while we were waiting to go in, we noticed that the crowd was much younger and much better dressed than you would normally see at a 70's era heavy rock band show.   Turned out there was some techno band called "UFO" playing.   Jambase and other promotion clearly indicated it was the legendary rock band.  We bitched and got out money back.  

The recent footage of Navy pilots chasing UFOs is pretty interesting.   Haven't seen any good explanations for that.

One of my favorite SciFi books Fire Upon the Deep has a whole part on this. No one has faster than light travel so the people on the interstellar trade ships have to suspend themselves so that they don't age when they travel between solar systems. But this always comes with complications. Get there to early and the society doesn't have anything worth trading, get there to late and they have blown themselves up. When they got there too early they would just put themselves in suspension and orbit the planet and check in every hundred years to see if they had developed anything worth buying. Of course going back to the home planet was always filled with tension too. Everyone you knew when you left is dead and hopefully there would be another trade ship back from their trip where the people on that ship had aged at your rate. 

At our best -present technology--supposedly we cannot travel faster than 20,000 mph in space. That means 7 to 8 months to  Mars.

I am not an astrophysicist​, but as I understand it, practical interstellar travel can only be achieved through warp technology or somehow breaking the space-time continuum​.   If that is the case, wouldn't it make more sense that the visitors are from our own future rather than some distant planet, especially considering they are often depicted as having anthropomorphic​ features suggesting a terrestrial origin.

Yep today is 20k MPH but speed of light is 670,616,629 mph so there is a lot of room for improvement that doesn't require re writing our understanding of the laws of physics. Not that I'm saying speed of light is the real barrier, since we can barely detect what most of the universe is made of -  I don't doubt that faster than light travel is possible. 

But even if it is 139,000 years that is only a lot of time to people who live 80 years. First solution is to stop aging. Second solution is to build generation ships -  although at least in SciFi those always end in a shit show a few generations down the line. 

All that said we are way further along in detecting life in our galaxy than we were 100 years ago, and so far it's looking like a lifeless wasteland, or at least not any life that uses technology the way we do.
