May Lake.  Elevation 9,270 feet.

So I did a search and Viva has lots of threads about Yosemite (I’ll link them here), almost enough for its own folder but in lieu of that I’ve started this thread because I wasn’t sure which thread to post these recent pics in.

Tim, is that a day trip for you, or a weekend event?

May Lake could be a day trip but it would be a long day.  Yosemite Valley is an easy day trip.  This trip we went up Friday after the kids got out of school and just got back.  Quick weekend trip with some friends of ours.

Nice. Is it remote camping or campground?

Drive in, fire pit picnic table campground.  About an hour drive to the trailhead for May Lake.  I think 2 miles each way on the hike with a 1,500 foot elevation gain.  Easy enough for the little ones.  Our friends have 4 year old twins and one of ours is 4.

We’re there any leaves changing colors yet?

My dog looking pretty majestic.

>>>>>We’re there any leaves changing colors yet?

No.  Just dead pine trees for color.

About a thousand feet above Lake Tenya.  The back of Half Dome is obscured by the trees on the right.

YES ! Before The Fall Crispness and Winter Snows.......................

39 degrees at night mid 60s during the day.  75 in the Valley.

Nice. fresh air and nature. stuff the kids will remember. See any good critters? Besides Mr Majestic that is...

Deer, squirrels, chipmunks, marmots, and birds.

Those are about all you would want to see im guessing. No Bars or Catz.

Yep.  No flys either.

How did you get your dog to May Lake? I thought no dogs were allowed on the Yosemite Trails?

I camped at May Lake a few years ago. FLUSH TOILET up there and potable water!

Dogs are not allowed on unpaved trails.  I got her there on a leash.  Marijuana is illegal there too but I brought some and smoked it.

Gotcha. Dog on the trail is  more obvious than weed..I'm not willing to risk getting fined for the dog.

Here’s me cooking breakfast.

Maybe after Sammy and Gravy are done beating off to it they’ll post it on garbagezone.net

I hear ya.  She’s pretty small and really good.  Plus in CA you can just say service animal and you’re in the clear unless your dog is biting someone or something.

Y’all know I’m a dirtbag.  I’m not above lying about my military service and PTSD to get out of a ticket either.

dog has her eyes on the bacon!

Don’t drown in your reflection, you sick fuck.

Gravy, do have any tactical pants like Hoover?

This is a cool thread and I don't know what Gravytrain is trying to muck it up. Possibly to appease his GarbageZone handlers?

Hmmm...read Hoover’s note to me above his selfie if you’re really confused. If not for that, I’d be happy to let Hoover post yet another Yosemite thread without me.

You just can't stop, Gravytrain. Been going on like this for years now. #sad

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, hope you find the inner harmony. (((passes peace pipe)))

Stop what? Making appropriate literary allusions to a weirdo who says I’ll give his photo a tribute? #sick

Look Gravy, I honestly don’t know what you do with a picture of me or Ateix or St Mark after you save it to your computer (besides posting them to garbage zone) but I just assumed you masturbate to them.  Sorry if I got that wrong.

You’ve got it all wrong again. The Garbage Zone doesn’t require saving an image to a computer. We just link to images already on the web. For instance, I just put your photo there right now without saving it.

Some folks reading here may not know that Gravy posts our pictures over on garbage zone on a pretty regular basis; but yeah, he actually does that.

Oh.  So Gravy says he doesn’t save the pictures but he won’t deny the masturbation.  Interesting.

It’s reasonably normal behavior, and gosh darnit why should he have to deny masturbating to these pictures that he shares with fellow members of a community of banned Zoners? Totally normal.

>> Gravy posts our pictures over on garbage zone on a pretty regular basis;

I've done it exactly twice, Mark, when the posters suggested as such. I've never posted your pic there. But if you ever suggest I do so, I might.

Two days ago, LaViva admins had to pull down an unauthorized picture of a GarbageZoner posted here. It flows in both directions. We are all Zoners.

I have a feeling you’ve ‘done it’ more than twice, Gravy. This uhh ‘internal imbalance’ seems like it’s been going on awhile now...

>> is that the same indian shit that caused all the problems at the other site redman

>> Ed is wise

Oh and for the record, Gravy? This particular Zoner has never requested you masturbate to pics of him. So, please: let’s keep it factual. Take responsibility for your own emissions, ‘redman.’

Jesus fuck, can we go back to the beautiful and interesting Yosemite thread? You guys are mucking up this thread that could have more pics of Yosemite and great stories and info.

s/ judit zoner

Enjoy your circle jerk, crüe. You're a weird bunch.

Well played.

You people.

Edit: never mind

Better luck next time

Ok timmy timmeh.  I just wanted to contribute to a decent thread you started and then you post this.

if you wish to play this way, olive branch retracted.  I'll just let others see you for your true colors. YOU took your own thread down the wrong path. IMO.

reap what you sow

lol

Fly, I was joking around.  I appreciate your participation in this thread.  No need to get bent out of shape but it’s kind of what you do so carry on.  What a funny thing to get offended about.

ru sure?  If so, I retract my retraction.  Its hard to communicate sometimes with just words on screen. Be well, carry on

Right on

So wait.....Timmy you don't live in PA anymore?

No man.  I’ve been in Fresno for the last 2 years.

what a mess.

is gtrain KK?

FresNO!    Well good for you.  bet the winters are a bit more tolerable.

damn, sweet pics, hoover. looks like a lot of fun. never been out to yosemite.

This thread is a perfect example of what is wrong here.  Hoovs, great thread. I love the area and don't get there anymore. But why did you egg on gravy? Just can't help yourself? Kinda childish. Why would you invite someone to ruin a potentially great thread? Maybe I come here for something different than some of you folks. But I don't have the time or room in my life for garbage.

Shit people, GROW THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!!!!

>>>>>why did you egg on gravy?

Because he likes soft doxxing and posting pictures of zoners on garbagezone and I think it’s kind of shitty so I called him on it.  He would have came in here and been an ass had I not said anything about him too.  He shits in all my threads.

who knows. maybe he will contribute positively to this thread instead of just complaining about people...?

yosemite is just over this little hill....jmt5_0.jpg

Dang, those are some gorgeous mountains!

Nice thread, Hoovs, I was there last weekend too.  I like ending backpack trips with a quick overnight (free) trip through Yosemite.  I usually hike out of whatever East side trail (this year it was 6 days in Colorado and then 2 in the Palisades out of Big Pine), then drive up Tioga and after 8pm they stop collecting a fee (and they usually wave me through on my way out hwy 140 or 120).

Cathedral Peak sunrise (while waiting for the cafe to open at Tuolumne Meadows).:

I was considering hike/climbing up Lembert dome, but the weather was funky, so I decided to drop down a few thousand feet to the valley and get up close and personal with big bad EL Cap:

ElCap_1.jpg

This is a really short hike from the car... I highly recommend it.

ElCap_2.jpg

ElCap_3.jpg

found a nice class 2 climb up to a ledge (to the left of the Nose)..

ElCap_4.jpg

my ledge was for the most part not below any of the more popular climbing routes, so I felt a little safer being hit by dropped objects.

Sweet shots Googly! Looks like big fun.

Nice pics HALL.  El Cap sure is a beast.

The new movie Free Solo about Alex Honalds free solo ascent of the Freerider route on El Capitan comes out Sept 28.

Right on Timmy, I'll check it out...  hanging out up there sure made me miss rock climbing. :(

What up, Fish!

Taft Point yesterday

1730D0B0-96CE-40D1-ADF9-996D26A6B8AC.jpeg

Hell of a place to fall from.

Or did they jump?

Haven’t heard anything other than the initial report that two birdies were found.

Secret park with a playground for the kids and a baseball backstop and volleyball net.  Great spot to play wiggle ball.

Nice pictures!  Did you do that slack line?

Heck no.

Damn Timmy Hoover and Googly, those photos are amazing! thanks for sharing..

Heck no.<<<<

Good answer.  I'd be on my belly if I was where that person standing near the end of the tether is at.

Looking like that couple who fell from Taft Point is another case of Death By Selfie, aka Stupicide.

Not a new thing.  People have been dying trying to get a slightly better photo in Yosemite since the 1890s.

to be honest, I felt far more out of control of the situation during this encounter on the hike down...

P1030027.JPG

Shit, is that a juvenile bear?   If so, was mama bear around?

Still think the picture on the ledge looks scary.   You crazzy.

I get uneasy watching people I don’t even know get that close to the edge.  I stay like 3-6 feet back.  Huge pussy.

I dig Doing the Heights...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

def a juvenile bear. and that pic was shot right from the trail with a few other people looking on.

didn't see a mama, plus it had just ripped that hole in the tree, so it knew how to get food on it's own.

da bears scare me more too.

yos.jpg

nice!

my stomach turned just looking at those.

#23 came for a drink in the stream the same time we did.  Yeah, I skedaddled.

yos2.0.jpg

There's pretty much no way I'm going out on those ledges, but I'm definitely not going to try to shoot a selfie out there.  At least Hall and Jamjuice had the sense to have someone else take care of shooting the document.

Hall

how'd you get the 1/2 dome cables all to yer self?

last i did that i had to climb over some flip-flop totting euros who had totally freaked enroute...

Nice time of the year @ Yosemite (but beware of falling bodies)

So is that Taft Point you're on there Hall?

He’s on the diving board at Half Dome

The story reminds me of the idiots about 8 years ago who thought it would be a good

idea to go to the middle of the river and take pictures, 20 feet from the edge

of Vernal Fall. One slips, and three end up going over the falls.

That park is not for the stupid.

Thx Timmy

Hall wouldn’t hike to Taft Point.  It’s too easy.

When Jerry fell ill after his 50th birthday tour we spent some unplanned time in Yosemite.

We waited in line for overnight passes on Half Dome.

Ended up spending several hours in the "cave" behind the diving board being regaled with stories of Yosemite

told by a fellow we met on top of the Dome. He had been visiting Yosemite regularly for over 20 years at that point in 1992.

Walstib, both times I've done it we camped up at those campgrounds near the half dome trail and got on the cables early (just after sunrise) and started back down before the crowds could even make it up from the Valley.

There were a lot more people the first time mainly I think because it was on the weekend and before the permit system, and people falling and knocking me off the cables was my biggest worry, so I actually clipped into the cable with a sling and oversized locking 'biner.

All these shots were taken on our way back down the cables and are from 2010 trip from Tuolumne down to the dome and back via Cloud's Res (wilderness permit included half dome permit).

Looking at the down climb and seeing the cables 'drop' out of view freaks out a ton of people.

My friend Matt goes over the edge:

.

Matt continues descending:

looking back up after finishing the descent:

we really got lucky beating the crowds (we passed a lot of people on their way up as we were heading down the trail)

While, I'm not a camper, I do have a few Boy Scout Merit Badges.

The last one was in the autumn of 1980  for waiting on line outside in New York City to see the Grateful Dead at Radio City Music Hall the following month...

Some one gave me a ticket to see Canadian Survivalist / Musician Less Stroud this Friday.

Part of his merchandising offering is Survivalist stuff.

He sells knives. Someone stole my knife as a package deal, when they were stealing my weed last week.

I'm looking to replace that Swiss Army Knife; I've had it for 30 years

Took the kids to play in the snow yesterday.

Friday at dusk I had the same stare down in my driveway with an eight pointed beast.

Hoov, Hall, others...

planning a family weekend in mid-May before the summer crush begins.  Any thoughts on car campsites?  Haven't spent enough time in Tuolomne so leaning there but I know sites aren't usually open in May.  Should I just throw $$ at Tenaya and drive in for the day?

Again, two tweens and my wife...  lucky to have 72 hrs in area.

Gracias...

be prepared for snow or cold in may.

Hogdon Meadows, Crane Flats, and White Wolf are all kind of in between the Valley and Tuolomne Meadows.  They could be open by May but you won’t know until closer till then.  I’d suggest making a reservation in the Valley for now and checking on other locations closer to the date.  Make sure not to cancel that first reservation until the second one is confirmed not just because you saw availability. Also, shit will change minute to minute when people cancel.  Sometimes you need to just be patient and refresh your browser until something pops up.

Frazil ice is pretty cool and can be seen in May early morning if temperatures are cold enough.

I took this picture of the reflection of Bridalveil Falls and El Capitan in the Merced River this morning and then inverted the photo.  So if you flip it upside down it’s what the original photo looked like.

Great photos, we're headed up to Yosemite over Mother's day weekend next month, I am psyched!

cool shots buddy

Took the kids up Tuesday and Wednesday.  There’s a ton of water right now.  The 120 to the high country probably won’t open till mid to late August this year.

I’m so glad you take photographs - the scenery is beautiful and so are your pictures.

I’m going to be there around 3rd week of August for the first time.  Really looking forward to that!  Great pictures.

Great shots. Where's Sam live ?

Not sure.  There's gun toting rednecks all over the San Joaquin Valley.  If I had to guess I'd say Chowchilla.

Don't you people ever get tired of all that nature shit?

The photos are great and I like looking at them for a few moments, but then I start subconsciously slapping at bugs.

I hate bugs.

my boss wrote a script to scan for his campsite #'s for yos. emails him when the spot opens. pretty sick.

We just were up there a few weeks ago......hiked the mist trail up Vernal falls, then up Nevada falls and back down the John Muir Trail. Fantastic and a sight to behold!
