Florida looks like its going to be hit this Labor Day weekend. Dorian is going to be more of a rain event for Puerto Rico later today, but that would still suck for folks up in the mountains that are still trying to deal with the effects of Maria two years ago. Then it's supposed to strengthen over the Bahamas on its way to the east coast of Florida.

Was chased out of the Outer Banks last year by Florence and have the second week of September scheduled this year........
Maybe need to change the time of year I attempt this but I like the beginning of September down there in Avon. Less people, more affordable, water still warm.
At least they still offer trip insurance for that time of the season.
Was never offered it when seeing shows though...........

Friday night go to Miami and blow off some steam with the re-re-scheduled Stone show. Tickets will be cheap on lot. Party
Saturday finish off shutters and cook all the food in the freezer. Go to dock and fish as the barometer drops. Epic fishing pre storm. Always.
All my Florida family and friends we have done this a few times and we know what to do and what not to do. Don't run a generator or a BBQ in the house. You will die.
Be safe, try to have a lil fun and see ya on the other side.
On Tuesday the swell and west wind......may even drop in on a few waves, just look out for shit in the water.
I do love Florida it's my home and I will never leave you.

As a major storm heads for Puerto Rico, the Department of Homeland Security and its Federal Emergency Management Agency said Tuesday they will move $271 million in funds to support President Trump's border enforcement efforts.
The Department of Homeland Security said it will transfer the emergency funds — including $155 million from FEMA's disaster relief fund — to support new Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention beds as well as facilities for related court cases, according to documents obtained by NPR.

Yep, The latest National
Yep, The latest National Hurricane Center tracking (11:00 am EST) shows the track veering east away from the Florida. Abaco and Grand Bahama looks like the might get the full fury, but Bahamians are a pretty resilient people who seem to roll with the punches when it comes to hurricanes. Anything that might get knocked down by a hurricane got knocked down a long time ago and they have the good sense not to rebuild stuff that will get knocked down again.
Carolinas might get hit, but the storm should only be a Cat 2 by then. Big question is whether it wobbles to the west again as it makes its way up the Florida Coast and Southern Atlantic seaboard. As of now, looks like T and Co. can take a day off from hurricane prep and hopefully be able to take down the storm shutters before the Labor Day weekend is up.
Two more storms are now brewing as hurricane season gets rolling.

Destruction in Abaco is
Destruction in Abaco is intense. It will take years to recover.
Here is the latest forecast track.
Just a little drift to the west and that same destruction will be happening all up down Florida's east coast. Storm surge is going to be bad enough even if it stays on the forecast track. The anticipated turn to the north can't happen soon enough. If it doesn't, West Palm Beach is fucked.
Jacksonville Beach announced it was going to ban the sale of alcohol "until further notice" starting tomorrow evening. They are ordering mandatory evacuations and closing some of the bridges to the barrier islands (including Anastasia Island in St. Augustine where my parents are) tomorrow. The "mandatory" evacuations are sort of misleading. Nobody is going to come knocking and force you out. Its just that if you leave the island, they won't let you back on. My parents aren't happy with that and think its all a bunch of hype. Luckily, their house is at almost 10 feet above sea level, one of the highest points in town, and they are better off staying put and not going anywhere.

I'm somewhat pessimistic
I'm somewhat pessimistic about it turning north. There's a weak cold front that just doesn't have enough oomph to steer a Cat 5 storm. There's an area of upper level divergence between the two, but doesn't show any signs of steering the storm either. If it continues straight into southern Florida, it would currently line up perfectly with Mar-a-Lago, which has it's own ironies. The storms moving so slowly, that's it's amassing a very large amount of ocean water on the north side, so when it hits, the storm surge would be catastrophic, not just because of height, but because of the depth of it going out to sea, a prolonged eye wall passage could erase a good portion of the buildings north of center. Wish it would spare Fla all together, but just don't see those steering currents turning the storm as forecast, really hoping to be wrong, have friends in the area!

Instead of fretting over and
Instead of fretting over and doubling down over a stupid gaffe he made about where the hurricane might hit, wish he would focus more on helping our Bahamian neighbors get through the worst calamity in their country's history. Bahamians are by and large really nice folks and its painful to see them go through something like this. Whole villages and neighborhoods just wiped out and blown out to sea.
US Coast Guard is already helping out, and hope we can deploy more of our resources ASAP without having to endure another embarrassing paper towel throwing incident. Vibes and blessings for the people on Abaco and Grand Bahama.
