The Republicans are not going to be happy with Alabama. Your not supposed to actually ban abortion. It’s supposed to be a wink and a nod to get the rubes to a voting booth.
This bill just puts into writing what they “Pro Life” people have been saying for years. If you believe life begins at conception, then having an abortion is killing a baby. What is the appropriate punishment for someone who knowingly and with premeditation kills a baby. Well Alabama says 99 years which is actually pretty restrained considering what they have been told to believe.
Anyway what the Republicans are going to learn is that taken away a right that has been settled law for 50 or so years has a very different effect on the electorate than just pretending you want to take that away in order to get people to the polls.
This might play to the hard core evangelicals, but trying to force a rollback of Roe v Wade isn't going to sit well with most other voters. Even if the SCOTUS takes this up, I suspect Roberts will be the swing vote in upholding 45 years of solid precedent.
Production companies can leave GA (and jambands could say "F the 420 Fest"). I don't think I'll buy another bottle of KY bourbon until Mitch McConnell is in the private sector.
But I had no plans to feed gators or whatever that I could cancel in AL.
Maybe women in these states need a "Lysistrata"-type plan.
