No shit, i had no idea?! I had a craving to listen to SRV earlier today, and i can't even tell you the last time i listened him prior to that. crazy

I was lucky enough to see him at cap centre, one of the players on my softball team had won the tickets from a radio station and didn't have any interest. the only problem was Stevie went on first and simply tore it up, very impressive. Jeff Beck came on next and we stayed a few songs in then left, no offense to Jeff Beck but he should have gone on first.

The guy could play guitar,

We saw the Halloween 1989 show in Columbus on that tour from the sixth row center. 30 years later my impression still remains that the whole show rocked. I also saw 2 shows while he was still partying hard. SRV could play stoned or straight and still make his guitar sing. RIP 

Saw him with Jeff Beck at McNichols Arena in Denver in the fall of '89.   That was one of the last times I got shit faced drunk at a show.   Drank a whole fifth of Old Crow while riding down from Laramie.  SRV opened and fucking smoked, but I was in a pretty gnarly shape by the time Jeff Beck came on and that fifth of Old Crow ended up on the floor of the arena.

I saw him in ‘83 at the Red Creek.  He was amazing and it was before he added a keyboard player, just a three piece band.  He did a Hendrix move by squirting lighter fluid on his guitar and setting it on fire!

I was at that show. A fun night, and agree Jeff Beck should have opened. ]

First time I saw him play live was at Tips in NOLA one Mardi Gras (1987?) and he sat in with the Neville Bros.

Saw SRV two weeks before he crashed at Fiddlers in Denver with Joe Cocker opening up. Good shoe. Stevie ripped.

Stood on Blvd East one night as he was playing The Pier in NYC.  Bass & drums were muddy AF, but his guitar was crystal clear from across the Hudson.

Also heard him from outside The Garden State Arts Center, when we were surprised to find his co-bill with Joe Cocker sold out.

Never did see him.

Blessed enough to have seen him a few times...once was an epic show at one time shot at having concerts at a high school field in new britain , ct....charlie daniels, srv, and greg allman band.....started raining off and on...(and on for greg who was closing show), but, maybe 1,000 ppl there , at most, for srv...freaking great show...maybe, maybe 200 of us for greg at end, who put on one hell of a show for all of us who were dancing in the rain...

One of those-- since then , ive met 20,000 ppl who were there....lol....

Absolutely heartbreaking death, especially since he was just starting to really take off again clean & healthy.

Not being a big blues fan I never had much interest in seeing him live in his early years and I foolishly missed some great opportunities in small venues.

The first time I did see him live it was only because he was on that tour with Jeff Beck, and I was there totally to see Beck, who did open the night I saw them in Oakland. I remember thinking, "Good, I can leave early after I get tired of Stevie Ray." Needless to say, even with that pre-conceived negative attitude it took about two songs and I was completely riveted with how amazingly good he was. Santana jammed with him that night, and normally Carlos rules anyone in those sit-in situations, but Vaughan was so incredibly good it was like he was 20 feet tall. I've never seen anyone else who "owned" a guitar the way he owned his.

I saw him once more, on a double bill with Joe Cocker just before he died, and he destroyed that night as well, and I was so happy to have a new (to me) guitar hero to look forward to seeing for years to come.

Damn helicopters.

We saw Stevie on the Joe cocker your 6 weeks before the end. The show was at cmac and they used to let bring in your own cooler with beer or wine. I mixed a big jug of vodka tonics with lemons floating in it. Get to the gate and they say stevie is a dry show! What's in the jug? Lemonade I say. He takes the lid off and smells it and says go ahead. Thank God Stevie was up first and he was out of this world. We left during Joe cockers set severely intoxicated. Voodoo child encore was great.
