Wonder which Southern state (D.C. doesn't get a vote in this too) will be the first to see the light?  I'm guessing Virginia, with Florida and Louisiana right behind.

Good for them.   At this point, there is no stopping federal legalization in the next few years.   Individual states could choose to keep it illegal if they want, and I can see some conservative southern, mid-western, and rocky mountain states still cracking down on the herb.  Shit, there are still hundreds of dry counties and cities out there.

NY came very close last week.

Fuckin dope fiends

Chicago Chicago, is my kind of town!

Does this mean that those of us already living in states that have legalized can now hub through O'Hare to other legal destinations worry-free?

According to the the TSA website:

"TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs, but if any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer."

So sounds like the worse they can do is report you to the Cook County sheriff or other local law enforcement, but they would probably tell the TSA guys that they don't care.   PDX TSA has a policy of allowing people to fly with ganja as long as they are going to another legal state.   I am flying up to Alaska next month and plan on bringing stuff with me.

Still, it would suck if you were holding a big bag of weed on your way to another legal state and there was some emergency or your flight suddenly gets diverted to Boise or Sioux Falls.

Speaking of traveling with weed, my brother is spending the summer traveling around Alaska and Western Canada, where weed is legal.   However, he recently crossed back into Canada from Alaska with edibles he had previously purchased in Canada.  At the border checkpoint going back into Canada, they asked him whether he had any cannabis and he showed them one of the bottles of edibles he had bought.   Even though he originally bought them in Canada, the Canadian customs seized it because you technically still can't cross over the border into Canada with herb, no matter where it originated.

IME as long as you can get on the plane with your herb it does not matter where you are flying - there is nobody checking anything on anybody flying into their destination or during a layover unless you leave the airport and go back thru security. las vegas is nice for this because they are one of the only airports that still offer pay lockers post 9-11, so you can put your backpack with your weed in a locker, head out to smoke a J, and go back thru security without any weed or luggage, then pick your stuff back up from the locker.

when cannabis had just been legalized in CO, i flew out of denver to SFO with some cannabis that i didnt really need to keep, so i asked a randomly stationed TSA agent if i could "board the plane with this cannabis i have in my backpack" since its legal in denver and at SFO and he told me the usual deal - "its illegal federally, but all the TSA is required to do is contact local law enforcement and its legal in colorado, so..." and just kinda trailed off. i said "ok then, should i go ask those denver PD officers over there what i should do?"

he looked at me bewildered and said "i wouldnt bring up anything that doesnt need to be brought up."

so i said ok, tossed my ounce into my paper lunch sack with my sandwich and crackers and went thru security...been flying with  unconcealed ounces to illegal states ever since...i just put it in a sandwich bag next to some crackers and a sandwich and it just blends in. as long as im flying out of cali, theres nothing to worry about.

I think Oklahoma will be the first Southern state.  I have been waiting two years in Louisiana with my recomendation and still zero product on the shelf.

It has been fourty four years since Louisiana first made medical marijuana legal.

D'Angelo Russell got caught...

A TSA spokesman told Newsday that officers from the agency detected marijuana in a checked bag that was subsequently identified, per reports, as belonging to Russell.

“The marijuana was concealed inside a beverage can with a hidden compartment. It was one of those Arizona [Iced Tea] beverage cans with a screw-off lid that people hide things in,” the spokesperson said.

This guy got popped too at the Portland airport a while back with five pounds of weed in his bag.  He admitted he had flown like that 15 prior times.  Even with the relaxed policies, if you are going to get on a plane with herb, try to keep it under a pound.
