GREAT News from Utah - one more Demo House seat

I posted this in the thread about gerrymandering months ago after a judge rebuked the legislature and sanctioned a new map that gave democrats in the Salt Lake area a district that went to Kamala by 24 points in 2024. https://www.vivalazone.org/other-stuff/yesterday-was-good-day-utah-well-...

"The win is temporary, maybe only one voting cycle. There's a new effort to do a proposition in 2026, this time by the conservative republicans, to override the previous prop 4 that established the redistricting committee."

Well, Utah's rules say you have to get 8% of registered voters in 26 of 29 senate districts to sign a petition to get an initiative on the ballot. Republicans dumped $4.35 million in the effort, hired outside help who misled signers, employed Turning Point USA, and got Trump to endorse it.

Proponents failed to meet that signature requirement in three of the districts, so they needed all 26 they had. But with widespread stories of paid signature gatherers misleading voters, an effort was launched to get people who were lied to to remove their names. Signers has 45 days after signing, and over 9,000 did. When they turned in the originals petitions, 25% were invalid.

But this morning, after the removal campaign, it was announced a district in the Salt Lake area fell behind the threshold by 260 names and the effort by the conservative republican legislature failed, and Utah will get a Democratic Congressional Representative !!!!! 

That's BIG news here!!!!!!  Now if can just get the progressive in and not the milqetoast former Rep, it'll be great. 

P.S. - There's talk the Senate President will call for a special session to amend the State Constitution.
