I don't know about that. The school and the entire administration has gotten thousands of emails and phonecalls. The superintendent is about the only one who hasn't shut down his Twitter account and he's getting bombarded. These little bastards will get expelled and hopefully have trouble getting admitted to colleges.

The images in videos that went viral on social media Saturday showed a tense scene near the Lincoln Memorial.

In them, a Native American man steadily beats his drum at the tail end of Friday’s Indigenous Peoples March while singing a song of unity urging them to “be strong” in the face of the ravages of colonialism that now include police brutality, poor access to health care and the ill effects of climate change on reservations.

Surrounding him are a throng of young, mostly white teenage boys, several wearing “Make America Great Again” caps, with one who stood about a foot from the drummer’s face also wearing a relentless smirk.

Nathan Phillips, a veteran in the indigenous rights movement, was that man in the middle.

In an interview Saturday, Phillips, 64, said he felt threatened by the teens and that they suddenly swarmed around him as he and other activists were wrapping up the march and preparing to leave.

Phillips, who was singing the American Indian Movement song that serves as a ceremony to send the spirits home, said he noticed tensions beginning to escalate when the teens and other apparent participants from the nearby March for Life rally began taunting the dispersing indigenous crowd.

A few people in the March for Life crowd began to chant “Build that wall, build that wall,” he said.

“It was getting ugly, and I was thinking: ‘I’ve got to find myself an exit out of this situation and finish my song at the Lincoln Memorial,’ ” Phillips recalled. “I started going that way, and that guy in the hat stood in my way and we were at an impasse. He just blocked my way and wouldn’t allow me to retreat.”

So, he kept drumming and singing, thinking about his wife, Shoshana, who died of bone marrow cancer nearly four years ago, and the various threats that face indigenous communities around the world, he said.

“I felt like the spirit was talking through me,” Phillips said.

Chase Iron Eyes, an attorney with the Lakota People Law Project, said the incident lasted about 10 minutes and ended when Phillips and other activists walked away.

“It was an aggressive display of physicality. They were rambunctious and trying to instigate a conflict,” he said. “We were wondering where their chaperones were. [Phillips] was really trying to defuse the situation.”

Phillips, an Omaha tribe elder who fought in the Vietnam War and now lives in Michigan, has long been active in the indigenous rights movement.

A co-founder of the Native Youth Alliance cultural and education group, he shows up to Arlington National Cemetery every Veterans Day with a peace pipe to pay tribute to Native Americans who served in the U.S. military.

“My job has always been taking care of the fire, to keep the prayers going,” Phillips said.

“I’m still trying to process what happened,” Phillips said. “I’m feeling a little bit overwhelmed.”

Still, he said, he hopes the teens will find a lesson in all of the negative attention generated by the videos.

“That energy could be turned into feeding the people, cleaning up our communities and figuring out what else we can do,” Phillips said. “We need the young people to be doing that instead of saying: ‘These guys are our enemies.’ ”

here is the full video of the event, showing the MAGA kids peacefully listening to some black israelite street preachers...if you dont know who the black isrsealites are, they are and insane and racist black power religion that preaches racism, hate, and conspiracy theories, and they are known for standing on the street, and loudly preaching about how whites are the devil, passing women are whores, etc etc.

while the maga kids are listening, this native american guy comes up to them, out of nowhere, and starts banging the drum in their face, i would assume because of their pro life stance and maga hats...which i think is cool, most of these kids deserve a testicle crushing kick to the nuts for being the kind of jackass that wants to wear a maga hat at a pro life rally...but in any case they are not harassing native american vets.

the kids did not go up to them and taunt them, or instigate at all, the native american guy was the instigator. that gateway pundit link is right, despite the site itself looking like an onion-esque piece of partisan garbage.

reading those washington post excerpts after watching the video of what happened is crazy. the events the post describes are often the exact opposite of what is shown in real life, on camera. woah.

the video i posted above at around 01:12:10 shows the native american guy walking up to the crowd of kids as the black isrealites jokingly and loudly announce his arrival, he goes up and drums in front of the kids, and at least at first, the group of kids is jumping up and down, joining in the chanting, clapping along with his drumming and cheering.

the whole incident lasts just a couple minutes, and when you watch it as a part of a while video, it is obviously centered around both groups trying to disrupt the black isrealites hate speech.

i have found myself agreeing with the right more and more over the past 4 years or so, which is absolutely terrifying to me.

when i was a kid it seemed so black and white...republicans hate gays and bush started the war so they are bad guys. dems have thumb up ass so they are de facto the good guys. my fragile world view has been absolutely shattered by the PC, race focused outrage machine.

hell I was actually there and know the school these kids are from, so I can give some context. 

So whenever something like a March for Life thing happens people who actually live in DC know well enough to keep their heads down and stay far away from the Mall, because there are not only a lot of undisciplined children (and man-children) but the potential for protesters, counter-protesters, wannabe pundits trying to 'interview' you, etcetera. I happened to be running across the mall at the end of the March for Life because I didn't even know it was a thing and was meeting a friend. Keeping my head down, etc. 

In front of the Lincoln Memorial there were I think two or three (looked like multiple) groups of students from I assumed different high schools, waiting for buses or maybe their teacher to guide them or whatever. They were loud. Extremely loud. A lot of them were wearing MAGA stuff, but that isn't unusual: personally, every school tour group I see in DC is usually blazing MAGA stuff alongside those tacky USA flag hoodies and stuff like that. It isn't unusual, but the sheer noise volume kinda was. Earlier I had noticed the indigenous people's march moving toward the Lincoln Memorial, but I didn't really know who they were or what they were about until way afterward when the video came out. I didn't see the actual mobbing of the Native American guy (Nathan Phillips), as I was getting away at that point. But those kids just looked super obnoxious, taunting and yelling at passerby. 

Did they shout Build the Wall? Yes I heard them chant that, although not for any particular reason. This was before the Native Americans were at the memorial I think. Did they shout Build the Wall at Nathan Phillips? Seems like it!

So what happened, at the memetic level, was that Nathan Phillips, a Vietnam veteran and one of the members of the Indigenous People's March, which organized after the annual remembrance of Wounded Knee was...less than remembered...was directing his small, peacefully protesting group toward the Lincoln Memorial since the day was ending. He tried to get through a massive field trip group made up of students from Covington Catholic High School, a private men's prep school in Covington, KY (that mostly serves rich families from uber rich suburbs of Cincinnati). The students started taunting and jeering him, at one point shouting 'Build that Wall!' to drown out his singing and chanting, and according to Phillips one student in particular got in his way and refused to budge, making Phillips stuck. The video of this, with the students heckling Phillips and the one student smiling smugly the entire time while doing so, went viral. People were outraged...well, lots of people were. Mocking Native Americans is pretty low, and using Trump's merchandise and slogans to do it confirms everyone's fears that Trump is emboldening racism among even younger people (which should be obvious to anyone who gets outside, but I digress). Still, you can see just in this thread alone that some people might view the situation...differently. Or want to do so.

SOO, an addendum about the school the students are from: Covington Catholic High School is notorious for people from the Cincinnati area as a breeding ground for rich, psychopathic brats. This isn't the first time they've been in the headlines. I can't speak for everybody, but growing up in Ohio Covington had an extremely negative reputation, its students being ill-supervised at away games and prone to slinging racial slurs at opposing athletes. Covington is a men's only prep school...it's not only expensive, it has a strong culture of bullying and entitlement that clearly hasn't gone away. I remember running into Covington kids at a county fair once when I was way younger and completely regretting it. They had a chaperone that did absolutely nothing while the students acted like complete brats. 

TL;DR: These students aren't ignorant rednecks from Kentucky. They're ignorant rich brats from suburbs of Cincinnati

Watched the video....not sure how this guy walking up on the crowd makes him the instigator.   All of it seems like a shit show, though and I do appreciate seeing the full story.   Not sure it changes my view of the kids chanting "build the wall" toward a native american who is a vietnam vet.

Intersectionality is a worldview that strips away the individual value of a person, and puts them into a catagory based on their race, sexual orientation, gender, etc.

Some people have referred to Intersectionality as 'The Oppression Olympics', based on the fact that within the Intersectional worldview, different combinations of group identities are awarded status based on the real or percieved historical (or present) oppression those group identities have experienced. For example, a Black Gender Queer Handicapable Feminist would wield an ostensibly more powerful "voice" than your run of the mill White Middle Class Feminist. Here's a recent example of how Intersectionality plays out among the activist class of the Intersectional Left:

This is a hot mess.   And now that a more detailed story comes out it has become muddier although doesn't clear them of their actions.  The kids letter to the press is intriguing but clearly he doesn't get that actions speak louder than words.   .

At the end of the day, the chaperones should have protected the kids and not let them engage.  If the boys were having insults hurled at them (which no one denies), it would have been best to get those kids out of there asap.   Why keep a bunch of high school boys in a toxic situation?   The Chaperones should be the ones to take the blame and for potentially escalating a bad situation.   

Nothing really happened except some jawing, maybe a little push and shove. Sitch was getting a little hot until Phillips got in the kid's face and somehow turned him catatonic with his drumming and chanting. I did hear some build the wall chants in the background. This action de-escalated the deal and nothing happened.

That being said, scheduling that National March for Life thing  at the same time as other protests is a set up for confrontation.   While it was a confusing mix up of different groups, what is clear is that there was more going on than what was conveyed in the little clips and memes that went viral right after the incident and the initial coverage has resulted in some unintended blow back.   This is the second time in a week that Fox News and other conservative news outlets have been able to bask in the glow of overreach by "mainstream" media:

Aside from the false dichotomy, there are some reasons why the attention has been focused on the prep school kids as opposed to the handful of Black Hebrew Israelites who did appear to have been instigating shit and hurling racist insults.  Its true that are some people of all races and creeds are racist against others.   However, white racism is often seen as a bigger threat because it has been historically coupled with privilege, power, and the ability to oppress.   A couple of black guys on the corner grumbling about "crackers" and "hillbillies" is arguably less of a threat to society than the future leaders of America (i.e. prep school kids) openly mocking people of color because they will some day be in a position to act on those prejudices in forming public policy and maintaining the forces of institutional racism. 

One day, the power dynamic in this country may shift or equalize to a point where this is not a factor.   But for the time being, you will continue to see more tolerance toward historically oppressed people spouting off racist crap than when its directed at those folks by people in power.

I am also a retired HS teacher who chaperoned 2 senior trips to DC, each lasting a week. Any chaperone worth their salt wouldn't allow there kids to engage in whatever shitty behavior was exhibited there. Then again, I'm still trying understand why a school would think it would be appropriate to take an all boys school to an anti-abortion rally. Is the catholic church that screwed up, seems they got more important shit to worry, like child abuse!

Now the divider in chief wants the kids to come to the white house. He better hope they are going to be old enuf to vote, he will need them.

At my catholic school we went to Washington DC at the end of the 8th. grade school year. They took us to one of them big white buildings with a large staircase, took a big panoramic picture of all 36 eighth graders (mixed class), and told us we could break out with our friends, explore, and be back in 6 hours. I have no idea where the chaperones or my classmates went, but me and my group took a wrong turn at the first street and wound up in the hood. We spent all day there going into crazy wig stores and other stores, hell it looked like the neighborhood my school was in. The condemnations were vitriolic, including here at National Review.

Of the most culturally deplorable boxes one can check in progressive America in 2019, the boys of Covington Catholic High School have most of them: white, male, Christian, attendees at the annual March for Life in Washington, and wearers of MAGA hats. What’s not to dislike? So when four minutes of video footage emerged online this weekend showing the students appearing to harass a Native American Vietnam veteran named Nathan Phillips, America’s media and cultural elite leapt to judgment.

Only it turns out there was a much longer video, nearly two hours, showing that almost everything first reported about the confrontation was false, or at least much more complicated. The boys had been taunted by a group of Black Hebrew Israelites, who shouted racist and homophobic slurs. Far from the boys confronting Mr. Phillips, he confronted them as they were waiting near the Lincoln Memorial for their bus.

Some of the students did respond to Mr. Phillips by doing the Tomahawk Chop, and it would have been better had they all walked away. But on the whole these teenagers were calm amid the provocations and far less incendiary than the adults who taunted them and the progressive high priests who denounced them.

Most of those who so eagerly maligned these boys will face no lasting consequences, while the boys themselves will always have to wonder, when they are turned down for a job or a school, whether someone had Googled their name and found only half this story. This is an ugly moment in America, all right, but there are few things uglier than a righteous leftist mob.
