DEMOCRACY

Forums:

What does Democracy mean, people?

It means that we are not governed by an Aristocracy. We govern ourselves. And it looks like we aren't doing too well.

It means that we have the responsibility to take care of our Democracy. We're failing in that too. We've allowed wolves into our community, and they've split us into ravenous camps. It's divide and conquer. We're fighting ourselves, rather than the Aristocratic among us. They don't have Titles of Nobility; now they carry titles like CEO, CFO, Secretary of State, President, etc. We must focus, people. This is the political battle.

We must be united as a people. The problem we have here is exclusivity. Let's be frank, some people want America to remain WASP, but it's going the other way, as it should. The United States of America, the people, must have an all-inclusive culture, if only for pragmatic concerns. Like the Gays have said so eloquently, "We're here, we're queer, get used to it." This axiom applies to all the Social Groups who have made their voices known in their Democracy.

We must know the history. The spread of Democracy started with the powerful merchants and traders. Now these same powerful merchants and traders have commanded the ship of state. The original victory of Free-marketeers over Mercantilists was a spreading of Democracy, but now those same Free-marketeers are the proverbial wolves in sheep's clothing. We won't get fooled again? Libertarianism is strangling us. The Alt-Right has us in it's grip. How?!

It amazes me that so few Christians realize that Jesus was a good liberal. He was against the Hierarchy. He preached endlessly for the poor.He was against trading in the temple. He told us to love each other and to love our neighbors and our enemies - that's everyone. He was definitely against covetousness and greed. He wanted us all to follow this path. How can it have gotten all so confused? Jesus would not want armies for his cause. He wouldn't want us to kill each other as we have in the billions these last couple centuries. He would not support the power that banks have these days. He would not support a culture war of WASP vs. Multiculturalism; his Doctrine of Love makes that clear. And yet, most Christians identify matter-of-factly with Conservatism. Again, how? Does the history begin with televangelists, politicians, and the like? Certainly.

The Democratic Party has to realign its story and win back the Christians. I wonder if everyone is already too invested in this reality to imagine the one sketched above. Maybe someone can make this outburst into a wild series that millions will watch. Maybe it'll spark debate. It has to have the Second Coming today and it's effects. Cool. But Jesus! no matter what, He was Democratic through and through.

And to note: an American girl is about to become an English Princess. WOW! Will she lose her American citizenship? She should. We're Democrats, even the Conservatives, though they forget, and she's about to becomes true Royalty. She's not one of us anymore.

Thoughts?

Roy Moore loves Jeebus too. Maybe it will all begin with a win in Alabama.

Hi, Hounder. Do you think it's possible to convince people like Roy Moore that Jesus was a liberal?

Maybe you could just say it was a long time ago so it doesn't really matter. Or that jesus didn't really have a problem with slavery

How could he not have a problem with slavery?

Yeah seems weird doesn't it? I guess hypocrisy is pretty ancient, too. Now, I'm not saying he was a slave owner just that he never really denounced what at the time was a common practice. Maybe if he was around today he'd say he remembers it differently, but for the good of the religion he will step down so we can all move forward.

We are a Representative Republic, not a Democracy.

Words matter.

Some people prefer not to hear words. They would rather just hear what they want to hear.

Democracy means never having to say you're sorry....

Thom, feeling represented?

How can it be all-inclusive is you seem to advocating the elimination of " titles like CEO, CFO, Secretary of State, President, etc."? It appears that you are simply advocating the other side of the coin of us vs them.

As for what political leanings Jesus might have in today's world, can anyone actually make that call based on what even the most sound theologians say are flawed accounts of the times, colored by those who wrote it...which is always the case with history.

I do find it interesting that you call for loss of US citizenship because of a future legal marriage because she has become "one of them." She, being a mixed race individual, sounds like she would be the type of person you want to see take hold and move us towards an all-inclusive culture,

I would like to ask you if you retain your US citizenship, and if you do, do you vote in US elections? What things caused you to hold on or discard your citizenship?

thread getting interesting

You are applying a political label on someone who was intentionally apolitical.

Magic man in the sky...

Jefferson had some things right, representative republic with selection by semi-democratic process.

The people who own the country ought to govern it. JOHN JAY

How did they get to own it?

they bought bitcoin in 2009

>>>...not a Democracy.

How can we have representatives if we don't vote them? If we vote them in, how are we not a Democracy?

Check this one out: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2015/05/13/is-t...

(I haven't vetted it.) And THOM, if I'm wrong, please school me.

In the same way that one must denounce all titles of nobility in order to be an American.

Where does it say that he was intentionally apolitical? To all: I am applying modern terms, but you can deal with that, right?

In the same way that one must denounce all titles of nobility in order to be an American.

There is nothing in the Constitution that requires a person to relinquish a title of nobility to by an American citizen. There is a non-ratified amendment that attempted to do that but it remains unratified, needing another 26 states to vote in ratification. It's been pending since 1810 so it seems unlikely that it will be ratified any time soon. Now if a US state decided to confer a title of nobility upon a citizen, they must give up that title or lose citizenship. That is not the case when a foreign nation confers the title.

The one thing a US citizen that has been conferred a title of nobility can't legally do is hold US public office.

Floops blew it on this one. A floops flop
