Greta TIME.jpg

When I think of climate change, I think of a verse from Dylan's "Masters Of War".

Upon looking, the verses that follow are appropriate also, especially for this occasion with Greta. Congratulations Greta, and thank you TIME.

From "Masters Of War" by Bob Dylan

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
That even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good?
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could?
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death will come soon
I'll follow your casket
By the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

i bet this triggers alotta people...

Trump to chime in, in 5-4-3-2.....

Funny how some people freak out and claim that we need to “leave the children alone” when Baron Trump gets name-dropped in a hearing but somehow that rule gets conveniently overlooked regarding this young woman

What's so funny Stu?

snore... Hitler and Stalin made that list too. Believe they both enjoyed telling people what to do and sailing also.

I agree with her.  I don’t agree that school children are missing school every single Friday in Europe for the year to strike.  Knowledge is power.

  Ned

Thom, are you going to wish her happy birthday?

Hahahaha

I'm happy about this recognition of her contributions and work - sparking people to think about climate change, especially more young people.

With as much exposure as she gets worldwide she should be educated about hemp and it's benefits but not a word ever. I sincerely doubt anyone has ever mentioned the word to her.

Is there anything worse than fox fucking news ? Yes, the shitheads who go there for their daily fix.

Greta Thunberg Is the Perfect Hero for an Unserious Time

Histrionic, beset by apocalyptic fantasies, and easily exploitable

Who better than a finger-wagging teen bereft of accomplishment, or any comprehension of basic economics or history, to be Time magazine’s Person of the Year in 2019? Greta Thunberg’s canonization is a perfect expression of media activism in a deeply unserious time.

Has there ever been a less consequential person picked to be Person of the Year? I doubt it. I mean, Wallis Simpson, 1936’s Person of the Year, got King Edward VIII to abdicate the throne. Thunberg can’t even get you to abdicate your air-conditioning.

These days we celebrate vacuous fire and brimstone. “Greta Thunberg” — the idea, not the girl — is concoction of activists who have increasingly taken to using children as a shield from critical analysis or debate. She’s the vessel of the environmentalist’s fraudulent apocalypticism-as-argument. Her style is emotion and indignation, histrionics and fantasy. She is a teenager, after all.

You’ll notice that, on one hand, Thunberg’s champions demand that the world take her Malthusian crusade seriously, and on the other, they feign indignation when you actually do. The argument that young people, because they will inherit the future, are also best equipped to comprehend it is as puerile as any of Greta’s positions.

Perhaps a better question is, What kind of parents, editors, producers, or U.N. officials would thrust a vulnerable child with Asperger, no less, into a complex and contentious debate? I have great sympathy for her. It’s her ideological handlers who have stolen her childhood.

In a more sane world they call it child abuse.

^ so angry

Poor Barron

Is she the Messiah?

Hemp getting boxed out of the 'save the planet' crisis conversation is one and the same.

trump is evil and infantile

style counts

i love what she is doing and i dont really care that shes young and not going to school as many folks often complain

but on the other hand i see her popularity as a sort of sad sign of the times.

there are professional scientists and researchers out there actually doing real work on climate change, who have gone thru years and years of higher education to study this subject at the absolute highest level. people who could explain the mechanisms behind what is happening to the maximum degree the current science will allow, and people who can quote figures with a special kind of confidence, because they were a part of the studies that found those figures. there are journalists out there such as david wallace wells that specialize in climate change journalism and can give complex talks full of new info for hours and hours. most of what i hear from greta is stuff that anyone who knows climate change would know.

again, its great what she is doing and i hope she finds success, i just think its sad that we live in a world where an engineered media figurehead without formal education or professional experience related to climate change is getting all this press and getting time person of the year when there are tons of actual researchers and scientists doing important research.

here is an interview with the climate journalist david wallace wells - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e286drjBZ-w

would love to see folks like that get more press, but i guess the public at large is not interested in hearing a complex and nuanced analysis of one of the most important issues of our time, and instead needs an overly dramatic media figurehead that seems to focus more on feeling than substance.

and your savior

Trump is such an asshole. Greta is awesome, love her fire and passion and she can slap down Trump better than any politician.

They don't call it "Asperger" anymore Thom.

You should let your team know that.

Perfect Hero - Thom who are you kidding we know there is only one effect hero in your world, and Greta ain't it

trump is a fucking disgrace to anyone with an ounce of humanity, humility or patriotism. Thank God both my parents are gone so as not to witness the fall of every liberal dream of Lincoln + FDR, not to mention the liberal teachings of Jesus. My WW2 veteran, commie hatin' father would have pissed on dump, my saintly mother of course would have prayed for him, but still be mad as hell and swore at just the right times.

I love Greta and everything she does, and I love the fact that she's a kid who's skipping school. It's a sign of our times that the adults of the planet are so entrenched in corruption and ego-games that we are incapable of actually doing what is required to make our footprint on this planet be a positive one. In psychology teens are considered like the alarm system of a family. They tend to wind their ways into the cracks of the family make-up and apply pressure where it most hurts. The weaknesses we raise them with are then reflected in our face in the teen years as they demand that we account for our actions. Greta is the teen of the world. Anyone who values Western society should be able to easily see that the tendency for the last 2,000 years is for wisdom and knowledge to move from an unknowable nature, to Gods, to God, to Kings, to Presidents and politicians and businessmen, then to the proletariat - little by little, then to the vulnerable and downtrodden, and finally to the most unexpected and forgotten group of all: children. Blessed are the children for they know that which we choose not to voice out of fear.

Also, Greta has never claimed to be anything more than she is. She's never said she's a scientist and always passes the argumentation buck on to the scientists. Thanks to her I would suppose that thousands, maybe tens of thousands, maybe more people have started reading up on climate change, looking at the science, understanding the arguments. I know for a fact that the teens I work with are (for the most part) fairly well informed and often learning more about this topic. So again, I don't think it's sad that she's our symbol. It's time we look to that which is young, as well as to the female element of creation, in order to balance out the last 5,000 years of toxic old male domination.

Finally, it's all about symbols. They who control symbols control reality. Anyone who hasn't should immediately read as much Robert Anton Wilson and a good dose of Foucault to understand the role of symbols in the human psyche. Greta is a symbol, and I personally welcome her as one, as it looks like a large chunk of the world has, too.

I'm not Christian, but I like this quote:

"2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew 18:2-4

NICE, Noodler. Classic. Thanks for posting that.
