Why is it that some who decry racism, sexism and intolerance against LGBTQ+...

Forums:

...have no problem spewing their ageism all over the place.

Hypocrisy at it's finest?

Certainly seems so.

My landlords are always older greedy pigs.

^My landlords were always older, some were crooks, some were good people... most were naturalized citizens

Putting down Healthcare workers during a pandemic is all good.

Next...

Who here put down Healthcare workers during the pandemic?

Surely there is no one here that evili, is there?

If someone did do that - they would surely deserve every rotten thing anyone posted about them.

>>My landlords are always older greedy pigs.

Aren't all landlords older? Has anyone here had a landlord younger than them?

Still - it's always good to generalize about all older people based on how your landlord treated you, isn't it?

"Don't trust anyone over 30."

If I name names, I'll get "The e mail"

Will that email be from a younger person or older person?

So is "ageism" on the same level as racism?

young whipper snappers

Hey OP, someone asked a question of you in your thread here.
>> is "ageism" on the same level as racism?

OP?

IMG_2873.GIF

Ok I can see we won't get OP so I'll go ahead and tackle that one, Timpane -

No: "Ageism" is not on the same level, whatsoever, as racism, sexism, or homophobia. Any basic analysis of our western culture would quickly provide that there is no systemic, engendered prejudice against elderly individuals. In fact, if you were discussing the topic exclusively through the (admittedly anthropocentric) lens of western society then it would rapidly become evident that we have baked certain ideals of wisdom and moral aptitude into our notions of the aged culture. Meanwhile, however, our culture has seen (a) the system subjugation of race to become subservient to another race, (b) serious misallocations of equity given between the male/female gender dichotomy (not to discount individuals who would not identify within that dichotomy, but that leads to (c) the systemic, cultural, and otherwise wholesale bigotry against individuals not within the heterosexual mindset.

So, no, ageism isn't the same and I would argue that anyone who would deign otherwise is either being inept or merely slinging mud and poo in the sandbox along with the other diapered individuals (aged or otherwise?).

I hope this helped Timpane. And good to see you, man.

The guy was fuckin ancient........at least 30 dude

Well, there's a list of things one shouldn't criticize other folks for - the things they had no part in. Color, language, gender, sexual orientation, place of origin, and, yes, age. Prejudices against any of these characteristics may be more or less common, but they are all equally "bad".

Unfortunately phobias are natural and aren't going away ever....

I  know plenty of older high tech workers who can tell you that ageism can still be real problem in the employment sector.

High tech, financial sector, gray collar, blue collar, service industry...many who are over 60 and who have been laid off are fucked. They stand to lose everything that they have worked almost 40 years to achieve, and many do lose it.

Just because the 0.0001% who run everything are old dudes, doesn't mean that all older people have power. You know, when old people have to choose between food and medicine, that's ageism, and it's life and death.

But hey, if it doesn't fit one's narrative, who am I to argue it?

>>Hey OP, someone asked a question of you in your thread here.

Good golly gosh - have some patience, ateix. Today is the day I go out and buy groceries for my in-laws and you'll have to forgive me for being able to be here on your schedule.

Timpane, on the other hand, you have shown some nice patience in awaiting my reply. Good for you. If only everyone could be kind like that.

So - to answer your query - I had a conversation about ageism with a younger friend of mine recently who is a sociology professor at the college my brother is also a professor at. She told me that not only does ageism exist in America - it is getting more and more prevalent in our modern society - and while racism is obviously worse - anyone who would attempt to compare the two is a fool. Why waste the time - as both are bad and should not be tolerated. She also mentioned that the USA has the worst ageism in the world as most other countries respect and value their elder citizens. Apparently Americans think of the elderly as a burden - for the most part anyway. Everyone likes their own parents and grandparents - but fuck everyone else''s grandparents. She told me that while racism is widely acknowledged by most everyone - one of the worst parts of ageism is that many young people dismiss it out of hand as "not a big deal" and that only makes the elder abuse common in modern America worse.

She did tell me that those who practice ageism cannot escape it from happening to them eventually, though - as they will grow old and even younger people will get up in their shit - so there is that silver lining.

OK Boomer

i regret when I feel a little ageism and think this entitled  MAGA kid from Kentucky is a tool. I am working on being less judgmental.

The answer is no, 6. Weird thread man. Wouldn't have seen this melt coming from a mile away.

hope you're well, Ateix. And thank you for all the records!! I still have yet to set up my record player but one day it will happen.

Ateix did a nice job of virtually helping Six cross the road here.

>>while racism is obviously worse - anyone who would attempt to compare the two

Gee.

Sounds like OP is literally comparing prejudices with their opening post plus their thread topic but hey, I'm just be chillin with my weed and jazz albums

Gladdens my heart to hear of the safe landing of the LPs and I send you my best, Mr Timpane!

Oh wait I get it 6 is actually weilding perceived prejudice as a bludgeon because he doesnt like a stranger on the internet

I don't think anybody suggested anything at all even similar to that.

So many "isms" to choose from...

you had your time to hate the old

and you blew it

>>Sounds like OP is literally comparing prejudices with their opening post

Interesting. So, if I post a succession of terms, for example - ateix, fool, douche bag, asshole - all in a row -  I am comparing them? Or perhaps am I saying they are all the same?

Six,

Some pretty good old-school Zone sarcasm, smarm, resentment, mistrust and Deader-than-thou-ocity going on in this thread. Sixer still mixin' it up after all these year's- borderline heartwarming.

Why thank you, Earl. We sure don't want to descend into a boring and peaceful way of life and put everyone to sleep.

Also - please note: For all "Deader-than-thou" content on this thread - the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Plug me in as Deader-than-anyone-in-the-history-of-the-PZ then.

Watched "Downhill from Here" multiple times...

Earl - you are LEGEND amongst us. You honor us with your presence.

^^ True. That paint-can vid does cement me as such. And ALL Floridians can take solace from it.

Another interesting thing about this thread - the title states "Why is it that SOME..." - some, not all - yet ...um...some here appear to have shoes that fit based on their response..

Ageism ? That's a new one to me. Is that the name some dipshits decided to attach to the folks who somehow managed to make their way thru both repub and dem administrations, paying off their student loans, going from meager apartment dwellings to homeownership, paying our taxes, then give our kids more opportunities than we had ?  What kind of assholes even think such shit ? There's not a proper word for imbacils like that.

Ev'rybody's talking 'bout
Bagism, Shagism, Dragism, Madism, Ragism, Tagism
This-ism, that-ism, is-m, is-m, is-m

going from meager apartment dwellings to homeownership,

See it can happen kids, if you want it bad enough.

If not, you just don't want it bad enough.

But by all means, keep cryin', that'll get er done for ya

Just get off your whiney ass slack, you'd be surprised what you can do.

Earl, are you the Florida Zoner that I sent two free weekend passes for Hangout Fest to, about six or seven years ago?

The answer from "some people" is that ageism isn't as bad as the other "ism's," so it's okay.

Tell that to the person who has lost everything because they can't get a job due to ageism, or the person choosing between food and medicine.

But again, if it doesn't fit their narratives, they ignore. Interesting, coming from "progressives."

>>> going from meager apartment dwellings to homeownership, <<<

We'll never happen for you unless you...

young people can and are also discriminated against as well.

Homeowners hate apartments and apartment people. They're bringing drugs, crime. They're rapists.

Are favors being called in?

Right on, BrianK. There are a lot of 'old folks' helping out/burdened with their parents and children,,,, circumstances.

The Sandwich Generation,  I have heard it called.

< young people can and are also discriminated against

Yeah us, 30 - 40 - 50 years ago when we were young. Yet we somehow learned how to Improvise Adapt and Overcome all the obb stackles. Since when did America raise such a pathetic litter of whiny whelps too weak to do the same ? Their parental influences sucked.

According to the city of Asheville-commissioned Bowen National Research, close to half of the roughly 19,700 renting households in the city are “cost burden households.” This means these households pay more than 30% of their incomes toward housing costs. The report found 25% of Asheville home owners are equally cost burdened.

Mount Mitchell is the highest peak of the Appalachian Mountains and the highest peak in mainland eastern North America. It is located near Burnsville in Yancey County, North Carolina; in the Black Mountain subrange of the Appalachians, about 19 miles (31 km) northeast of Asheville. It is protected by Mount Mitchell State Parkand surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest. Mount Mitchell's elevation is 6,684 feet (2,037 m) above sea level.[1]

Poor Hillary and honestly poor us.  Not one single nefarious thing ever proven, but ended up the most vilified and hated woman in American history.  We would have 75% fewer deaths from the pandemic if she was in charge; and I'll take that to the bank.

Is she hiding in Biden's basement?

we still wouldn't have m4a under hrc, and people in this country die from not having healthcare.

Fucking awful to have a mindset like that. No wonder you seem irritated more often than not. Well yer not alone, despair has set in on a few listers lately. So sad

Ya know Vermont was recently paying folks to move there. Lots of inexpensive properties. A bit chillier than California in winter but you may get the hang of it. And it's fucking beautiful.

The Torchum Never Stops

hey ras, if i simply wanted a home and a cheap place to live, sure i could do that.

my gig and location are locked in for a few more years. it's ok.

suuuuure, i'd love to own a home but that ship sailed in this area for normal income people somewhere in the early 90's....

if i felt strongly that it was worthwhile to "move further up the ladder"  just to own a place here i would. i made peace with that quite sometime ago. people can keep their 1.2 million dollar tear downs.

the mtns are great. love to visit, but i am a beach person.

and speaking of irritated....you are hardly a zen master here bud.

Beach is gonna cost ya no matter where. Can't touch the nice coastal areas out here for anything less than buko bucks. I gave up on that dream, but it's only 45 mins to the ocean where we live. I looked at Cal in the 90's, all I could afford was a condo with neighbors way too close. California or bust, I hear ya, its beautiful, but too expensive to live. That's why I'm out here.

And hey I'm workin on it.

>>>> I guess I've been a bit rough on you and you don't deserve it. Again my apologies.

That was to make you feel better when it seemed like you were very upset this morning.

Aw, see 6. I knew you had a sensitive side.

There you go, bud!

The day we met - we were both nice to each other and showed our sensitive sides.

That changed somewhere along the way.

Oh, 6. I like it when you speak deeply from your man-heart-space. Keep going, this is a lot better than the usual follow/troll/edit > lather/rinse/repeat.

No trollmo', 6? We can try it right old pal?

May could end better than it began.

Grow the fuck up....all of you's.

>>We can try it right old pal?

>>May could end better than it began.

But I shared some of my thoughts and opinions with you that day we met - and you then used them against me later on the Zone. That was not nice and I think that was what made me change my opinion about you. Up until then - I used to say nice things about you to all the other naysayers (read older people) here - but when you started with that bullshit , I had enough. Maybe you could stop all your bullshit here too and be real? We have had nice periods between us for a couple days here and there - and then after a day or two without warning you usually call me pathetic, say things like I have not aged well, etc. etc. etc. Can you stop with the personal attacks like that, ateix? Or will we make nice today and then next Monday you will again tell me I'm a pathetic and lame old hot dog...? What will happen next? Tune in tomorrow.

None of that CBGB shit or being a registered Republican or any of whatever you're alluding to there is shit that you mentioned to me when we met, man. Do you actually remember meeting, 6? lol I spent half the day near unconscious from being hungover and some sunstroke that I was passed out on Joe's Field almost all afternoon...

Just chill man. Let there be truce. I don't think you're a hot dog, I just really want to make one of those hot dogs with the brioche and shit that Noodler posted! It's not all about you!

Chill! No trollmo!

Yes. I remember much from the day we met.

Strangely, I had thought we could be friends after that day.

I'll take it slow, man, and see how things go before I make any promises.

Some of things you have posted to me pre-edit here and in emails will be hard to forget.

Forgive? Sure. Forget? Well...time does have a habit of letting things go.

Like I said, taking it slow - slow like I just like I had a nice edible.

Do you like edibles?
