Lockn’ still on?

Forums:

Some rumors are floating around that Lockn is canceled, but no official word yet. Any more info?

I've been on the watch for this info... have only seen speculation.

Hope it happens, but from what I'm hearing at work, we will still be dealing w/ effects from the virus in June.

Lock'n will be canceled as will most if not all summer tours.

I'm just hoping they can/could reschedule for September or something...

just in time for the Fall Covid-19 Reprise/Redux Tour...

Shows are OVER folks.  Couch tour is the future.

I will be surprised if there is another live us concert with an audience in 2020

I work for the catering company that feeds Pete and Co and the Vip's packages. As we all know Shappy will keep his cards close to his chest, will keep you posted.

If PO(tu)S doesn't lock down the whole country, life as we knew it will not be back to normal by June.

Stay safe peeps. This is serious, do not listen or follow the sheeple. We as the world, can only accomplish this dire task together, be kind to each other and help your community. This is the prefect example of the web of life.

"This we know the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself."

Love to all, no exceptions

(but I'm really having a hard time including the ignorant president in my daily mantra)

Good to hear from you Merriweather!  Thanks for keeping us posted...Didn't buy tickets but was hoping to make the trip happen at the last minute.

Hi Spanish Queen! Glad to hear from you too! Giving you a virtual hug from the other coast!! I would love to think we could all eat, drink and dance together under the stars of a warm June sky.

Support your local government, they are the ones who seem to understand the veracity of the virus. My island has been shut down to visitors and non resident homeowners since the 17th. The police have the bridge closed and are checking identification. It got really real for us last week.

xoxo,

Merri

hugs back Merriweather!  let's hope for a postponement to October for less humidity. it would be fun to help you in catering as i love to cook and seek out experiences with professional chefs.

my local government is also my employer... and i've been helping out with the joint information center to coordinate citywide external communications (JIC in FEMA-speak) from my home office, so that's been interesting.

i used to live on an island -- totally get what you're going through. hang in there and stay in touch.

let's hope for a postponement to October

That's hurricane season, isn't it?

No.  Lockn will not be on.

This seems obvious.

Woz - You are correct. I always space the hurricane factor as I've never lived in SE.  Ok, bring on sweaty September.

I think it will be flat out canceled which is sad for Phil and everyone that wanted to celebrate 80 circles around the sun.

Hurricane season starts in June.

Well THAT's unfortunate. What a long season.

Happened upon this new interview with Shappy... it's a good read.... would love to see a thread with Zoner stories about the Wetlands Preserve, which is mentioned in the story... https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/arts-letters/articles/peter-shapiro-m...

Excerpt re: Lockn >

Then the virus hit. Lockn’ has not yet been rescheduled but could be delayed to the fall. Shapiro says that of the 100 or so shows of his wiped out by the pandemic so far, “less than five” have been totally cancelled; the rest will be postponed until after the crisis. The Lesh shows never happened, although Relix ran a daylong web broadcast of past Phil and Friends concerts at the Capitol on the Dead bassist’s birthday on March 15. Shapiro does not think the virus jeopardizes the existence of live music as we used to know it, or that it will make an entire generation permanently nervous about being in large crowds. People need the shows too much, especially when they’re suddenly gone. “I think in a way fans miss getting together in person,” Shapiro said by phone in mid-March. “You miss the human thing.”

If the pandemic continues in waves as I've been hearing predicted this week, a Lockn reschedule would be a bad move for Phil.

Trump says all they need to do is change the name to "The Carry On and Meet Your Makers Festival" and he approves, adding "we desperately need lab rats".

Perhaps Shappy has "postponed" it until 2021?

Local rumor is that it'll be rescheduled to early October but don't quote me cheeky

LOCKN’ 2020 Has Been Rescheduled to This Fall

The LOCKN’ Festival has confirmed it will take place this year, however it will move to the autumn.

The Arrington, Va. festival was originally scheduled for June 19-21, but it will now be offered from Oct. 2 through 4, with a special “Steal Your Thursday” party on Oct. 1.

“We know the world has changed, but one thing has been made clear — even though this pandemic has separated us physically, we are all in this together,” organizers wrote in an official statement.

Currently, the festival is “actively working with artists to reschedule the festival. The lineup and additional ticket information, including our refund policy, will be announced as soon as it is finalized. In the meantime, know that all previously purchased tickets, camping, parking, and Early-Entry passes will be honored on the new dates.”

This will mark LOCKN”s first fall outing. The event traditionally takes place in mid-to-late summer.

LOCKN’ 2019 was particularly memorable, with Trey Anastasio and Tedeschi Trucks Band offering a surprise, full recreation of the legendary Derek and the Dominos’ record Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.

Check out the festival’s full statement below:

LOCKN’ Family,

We hope you are staying safe and healthy, and continuing to look out for one another. The last few weeks have been heartbreaking, and we’d like to first take a moment to thank all of the healthcare and other essential workers in our communities who are helping others make it through these challenging times — thank you.

We know the world has changed, but one thing has been made clear — even though this pandemic has separated us physically, we are all in this together. Reflecting on how we miss being with our friends, sharing music, dancing, hugging, in celebration, helps us feel that spark of joy even while we are waiting for the world to start up again.

In that spirit, with the support of our artists and partners, we believe it is in everyone’s best interest to postpone LOCKN’ 2020 until the fall. The 8th edition of LOCKN’ is now scheduled to take place October 1 – 4, 2020.

We are actively working with artists to reschedule the festival. The lineup and additional ticket information, including our refund policy, will be announced as soon as it is finalized. In the meantime, know that all previously purchased tickets, camping, parking, and Early-Entry passes will be honored on the new dates.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and support as we work through this unprecedented challenge and the many moving parts involved in rescheduling the festival dates.

We also want to make you aware that we are working on new health and safety protocols, which will continue to evolve as new guidelines are issued by public health authorities, to ensure the festival is safe and comfortable for everyone to attend. These may include reducing our overall capacity and increasing the amount of space allocated for campsites.

We want to make LOCKN’ 8 happen in 2020. With your help and support, we will make sure the road to LOCKN’ continues.

Be kind to each other and stay tuned.

Gratefully,
The LOCKN’ Team

Lots of good deals available for lodging in and around Charlottesville for those dates right now.  That's usually a real pleasant time of year there, as the heat and humidity back off and the leaves start to turn.  May be time to make a pilgrimage.

Why would anyone purchase a concert ticket or make a hotel reservation or book a flight is beyond my understanding for 2020.

The hope is that with the curve of newly reported case being flattened nationwide accompanied with widely available testing to identify, isolate and do contact tracing with new cases, that things will have opened up by that point.  If we have to wait a year to a year and a half for a vaccine to be developed, so be it, but remember that vaccines are not always 100% effective.  I think the current standard annual flu shot is somewhere in the neighborhood of 70% effective.  I'd like to think that we'll have the novel coronavirus more under control a lot faster than it will take to vet a vaccine.

On a side note, the rescheduled Lock'n dates do conflict with Hardly Strictly Bluegrass' standard first weekend of October dates.

Lock'n and Hardly Strictly may not happen in the fall. If they do, the result could be be mass illness. Large gatherings won't be completely safe from coronavirus until late summer 2021, the minimum amount of time necessary for a vaccine to be ready for worldwide distribution, and/or 60%+ herd immunity.

Gov't and business policy makers, who care more about money and power than human health and safety, will certainly reopen venues before next summer, but that won't make the events safe. They won't be.

Anybody that is planning to attend large events before late summer 2021 should be consciously willing to take the risk of contracting the virus, and spreading it to others. You should assume that there will be many covid positive people spreading it around, and unless you are already immune, you will probably get it and spread it. What is your tolerance for risk for yourself and others? Is the payoff for a good time worth the consequences? These are serious considerations.

In my opinion, this is a time for extreme realism and caution, not blind optimism. Unless the covid trajectory changes drastically, and empirical evidence changes my mind, I'm not planning to travel or attend large events until at least August 2021. Unfortunately, I don't think events with as little as 200-300 people will be safe for a long time. Big events will be catastrophic. Venues that aren't well funded, and musicians who aren't well funded are going to struggle for the next 2 years.

Duh.

No one believes in these new dates will hold.

Its just a way for Shappy to keep your money a lil longer.

Agree, I'm skeptical.
But someday, we need to gather for music and to gather the tribe.

Smaller scale gatherings?

I'm feeling for the vendors at Oregon Country Fair, too.

I imagine that will be the next big event to cancel.

Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle were today's cancellations.

I am cautiously optimistic for October dates.  They should have the testing ramped up by then, and be able to isolate and contact trace the cases that show up.   Waiting a year and a half for a vaccine is an insane standard.  Not only will it not be 100% effective, you will still have all of the anti-vaxxers out there.  I think if they have it controlled to the point where the risk of infection is low enough and the hospitals aren't overwhelmed with cases, the wraps will start to come off.  Humans are social animals.  No way people stay sheltered in place all summer long.

Unfortunately, I don't think events with as little as 200-300 people will be safe for a long time. Big events will be catastrophic. Venues that aren't well funded, and musicians who aren't well funded are going to struggle for the next 2 years.

i  plan on being at the first shows at both TXR and Sweetwater.

I don't think there will be any large concerts until next year.

How about a 50-person West Coast Zoner Jam in Montana? ;)

That sounds good LOL

It can be realized: Druba / Noodler has offered the land.

Montana has a low COVID rate -- now.

If we wait till late August / early Sept it might be safe to do this.

How has music been organized for past West Coast Zoner Jams?
